Exploring the Mirrormazes
Set in the year 3323, the game takes place in a future governed by a supreme AI known as Primus. Players step into the role of Enforcer Decem, an operative tasked with entering "Mirrormazes"—mental realms constructed from the consciousness, fractured memories, and obsessions of individuals. While the game features a tactical top-down perspective for most of the journey, it periodically shifts into side-scrolling platforming sequences to provide a varied cinematic rhythm.
The narrative centers on Decem, who begins the story severely injured and suffering from memory loss. As players progress, they will work to uncover the truth behind the Meta Mirror Project, a collaboration between humanity and Primus intended to stabilize society by repairing damaged psyches.
Tactical Movement and Combat
Producer Guo Lei highlights the "Light Trail" system as the title's defining feature. By leaving a glowing path through the environment, players can warp back to previous locations, turning movement into a versatile tool for both puzzle-solving and combat. In battle, this mechanic allows players to evade incoming damage, reposition behind shielded enemies, or escape dangerous area-of-effect zones.
The combat design balances challenge with accessibility through features like:
- Forgiving Checkpoints: Battle failures allow for quick restarts to maintain momentum.
- Dynamic Boss Encounters: Major enemies feature multi-phase behaviors and distinct combat patterns that require observation and adaptation.
- Modular Progression: Players can customize their playstyle using seven primary modules and over 20 secondary modules, allowing for builds focused on counterattacks, raw power, or tactical precision.
The game’s story also features multiple endings, which are influenced by the decisions players make during their interactions with allies on the Motherboard.
