RuneScape: Dragonwilds Set for Xbox Launch, Bringing Survival RPG to Console
Jagex has confirmed that RuneScape: Dragonwilds will make its debut on Xbox Series X|S on September 15, 2026. This marks a significant milestone, as it is the first time a RuneScape game has arrived on the Xbox platform in 25 years, introducing the iconic franchise to a new console audience.
RuneScape: Dragonwilds is presented as a survival RPG adventure, inviting players to explore the magical, hidden continent of Ashenfall, known to locals as part of Gielinor. Players begin as ordinary adventurers, tasked with mastering the wilds and progressing from level 1 to 99 across various skills. The ultimate objective involves confronting and overcoming the ferocious Dragon Queen Kuldra, a formidable challenge that requires extensive preparation and skill development.
The game supports 1-4 players, allowing for both solo expeditions and cooperative adventures. As players traverse Ashenfall, they will encounter a vibrant, sprawling world filled with dangers and discoveries. This includes battling legendary creatures such as Black Knights, towering Zogres, Chromatic Dragons, Kalphites, and the fearsome Garou, all set against a backdrop of reorchestrated RuneScape classics and new musical scores.
A core element of survival in RuneScape: Dragonwilds is the innovative use of Skill Spells. These magical abilities empower players to transform their environment and overcome challenges. Examples include summoning a spectral axe to fell trees instantly, blinking away from danger, conjuring a tornado of fish from a lake, or exploding ore veins with a snap of the fingers. These spells are designed to turn basic survival tasks into dynamic and efficient actions, directly impacting how players gather resources, navigate, and engage in combat.
Beyond combat and exploration, players can also engage with a robust building system. This feature allows for the construction of breathtaking homes using hundreds of unique building pieces, providing fortification against the ever-present dragon threat and offering extensive customization possibilities. The journey through Ashenfall involves uncovering ancient secrets and harnessing wild anima, which is crucial for defeating monsters and understanding the continent's mysteries.
Jagex has outlined an expansive roadmap for RuneScape: Dragonwildspromising continual updates and new content well into 2027 and beyond, following the 1.0 release. The development process has been notably community-driven, with player feedback directly influencing the roadmap. This has led to the earlier-than-planned introduction of dedicated servers and the addition of new combat and quest content, underscoring a player-centric approach to the game's evolution. The game will also be available to subscribers of Xbox Game Pass.
