I have long been a fan of the DEAD OR ALIVE series, drawn in by the fast-paced fighting mechanics rather than the notorious jiggle physics. However, after spending time with DEAD OR ALIVE 6 Last Round, which arrived on Xbox Series X, PlayStation 5, and PC on June 25, 2026, I can’t help but feel that the series has arguably had its day. While the core action remains as sharp as ever, this "definitive" version struggles to justify its existence.

A Minimalist Update

When a game re-releases with a title like Last Round, players naturally expect a wealth of new content. Unfortunately, that isn't the case here. Beyond bundling previously released DLC fighters into the base roster, the only tangible addition is a photo mode. While this allows you to position characters in various poses for snapshots, it is a niche feature that feels like a weak attempt to refresh the package. The lack of substantial content has already sparked significant backlash in the Steam community, particularly regarding the handling of previously purchased DLC that is no longer accessible in this new version.

The Arena Remains Polished

It is worth noting that if you enjoyed the 2019 original, the foundation of the game is identical. The graphics hold up remarkably well, with flashy effects and fast, fluid movement that makes throwing opponents into Danger Zones feel just as satisfying as it did years ago. The audio remains consistent, from the character barks during combat to the voice acting in cutscenes—though I still find Helena’s French accent questionable.

The online experience is arguably the biggest improvement. Lobbies are currently well-populated, making it easy to find matches in both ranked and unranked modes. However, the matchmaking system is inconsistent; as an F- player, being matched against a C-rank opponent remains a recurring, frustrating reality.

Verdict

OUR VERDICT

While the fighting remains high-quality, the lack of meaningful new content and questionable handling of DLC make this a hard recommendation.
