Activision has confirmed that the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 Open Beta will launch this week, providing players on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One an early look at the upcoming title. The test period begins on Friday, August 28, at 10 AM PT and concludes on Tuesday, September 1, at 10 AM PT.

What to Expect in the Beta

The beta provides access to several core components of the game, including:

  • New Multiplayer modes
  • A playable Campaign mission
  • Ground War
  • Call of Duty: Warzone Resurgence on the new Zodiac map
  • Expanded movement systems and loadout customization

Participants can progress up to a maximum Player Level of 30 during the event. Any of the eight available rewards earned during the beta, such as the “Beta Forged” Weapon Blueprint for the Han 86 Assault Rifle, will be available for use when the full game launches on October 23, 2026.

How to Access the Beta

Players can prepare for the start time by pre-loading the client now via the Microsoft Store. On your console, navigate to the Subscriptions tab in the Xbox Store to locate the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta within the Free Play Days collection. The game is optimized for Xbox Series X|S and supports Xbox Play Anywhere.

Additional Free Play Days

The beta arrives alongside a broader set of Free Play Days offerings for Xbox members. From August 27 through August 30, Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, and Essential members can access Naruto To Boruto: Shinobi Striker and ARK: Survival Ascended. Additionally, all Xbox members can access Control Ultimate Edition and Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves during the same window without requiring a specific subscription tier.
