Microsoft has officially announced the "Disc to Digital" program for Xbox, a new feature designed to allow users to convert their physical game libraries into digital formats. The feature is set to begin rolling out on August 31 to a select group of Xbox Insiders.

Once a digital entitlement is claimed for a supported game, players will gain access to digital benefits, including Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming where supported. The company stated that while not every title will be available at the start, the library will expand over time.
"Most Xbox One and Xbox Series X disc-based games support this new feature... while your physical disc continues to work exactly as it always has," the announcement noted.
The program is currently limited to Xbox One and Xbox Series X physical media. There is no information regarding potential support for original Xbox or Xbox 360 discs at this time. Microsoft described the initiative as part of a broader commitment to game preservation, aiming to ensure players maintain access to the games they own as distribution technology evolves.
