The upcoming film Spider-Man: Brand New Day found a unique source of inspiration during its production: Insomniac Games' popular Spider-Man titles. Director Destin Daniel Cretton revealed that the movie's stunt team looked to the games to help define the character's movement and combat style on screen.
In an interview with Polygon, Cretton explained that while he does not identify as a gamer, he and his team spent time with the titles. "A lot of the people in our stunt department loved playing those video games," Cretton said. "They would do screen grabs of their play and bring it in and say like, 'Can we pull this move off?' So that was a great inspiration for things."
Connecting Games and Film
The stunt team's focus on the games highlights the fluid animation and combat mechanics that have become a hallmark of the Marvel's Spider-Man series. Tom Holland, who portrays the lead character in the film, has previously praised the games as "absolutely sensational," further cementing the link between the interactive and cinematic versions of the wall-crawler.
Brand New Day Content for PS5
The synergy between the film and the video games extends beyond just inspiration. Insomniac Games is set to release a new suit for Marvel's Spider-Man 2 on PS5, based on the design featured in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This content will be available as a free download for players on July 28, 2026, just before the film's theatrical debut.
