Sony has officially confirmed that a new God of War game starring Kratos is currently in the early stages of development. The announcement came from Cory Barlog, Head of Creative, during the San Diego Comic-Con 2026 this weekend.

The upcoming title will serve as a direct continuation of the story established in Laufey the next entry in the series, which is set to launch on February 16, 2027. Barlog noted that the team is using Laufey to expand the world and set the stage for the next Kratos-led adventure.

The game features a unique premise involving a limbo state where multiple pantheons collide, and it will introduce Phranque, a talking cube character expected to play a significant role moving forward.

Santa Monica Studio is currently managing multiple God of War projects. In addition to the new Kratos-led title, the studio is internally handling remakes of the original Greek trilogy games for the PlayStation 5. With Barlog now acting as Head of Creative, he is guiding the long-term vision for the series' narrative and world-building.

Platform Expectations

While specific platform details for the new Kratos-led game were not finalized, it is expected to arrive on the PlayStation 6. Given the current industry climate and discussions regarding potential hardware pricing, there remains a possibility that the title could eventually see a cross-generation release, though official confirmation on hardware targets is not yet available.
