Exploring the Broader Tapestry
The announcement arrived during an appearance at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. Discussing the upcoming title centred on Faye, Barlog noted that the project fits into a wider narrative framework for the franchise.
"Faye is, while it's a different thing, it's still a part of the larger tapestry of what we truly really want to explore, all of these different characters in there," Barlog said. "But there's always going to be Kratos games, like throughout the whole history. We're super excited about that."
What Comes Next for Kratos
While Barlog did not disclose specific setting details for the newly confirmed Kratos-led installment, previous hints from the studio head have pointed toward potential explorations of the Egyptian or Mayan pantheons.
Kratos actor Christopher Judge has also voiced strong interest in taking the series to Egypt, remarking previously that such a move would represent "a completion of my circle" following his past work on television.
God of War Laufey is published by Sony Interactive Entertainment and serves as a follow-up to previous entries in the franchise, including 2018's God of War and God of War Ragnarok.
