PlayStation Network has begun recovering after a global outage knocked major features offline for more than six hours on Friday, July 24, 2026. While core login functions and game downloads are returning to normal for many users, the PS Store Still Being Repaired by Sony's engineering teams.

Quick Facts

  • PSN experienced a major global outage lasting over six hours on Friday, July 24, 2026.
  • Amazon Web Services (AWS) suffered a hiccup that impacted backend infrastructure powering the network.
  • Sony's status page reported normal operations while users worldwide faced widespread errors and login failures.
  • The PS Store and related web storefronts are still experiencing lingering issues and error messages.

The Cause of the Outage

The widespread disruption traced back to Amazon Web Services, which powers a significant portion of the PlayStation Network's backend routing. AWS issued recovery updates throughout the day as engineers worked to restore affected routes and reduce timeout errors. Despite AWS confirming that its services were resolved, the backlog of authentication and connection requests left PSN struggling for hours afterward.

During the peak of the outage, Down Detector reported massive spikes in user complaints across both the United States and the United Kingdom. Players found themselves completely locked out of essential features, including friends lists, Trophies, game downloads, and the PS App. Some users reported that digital game licenses failed to verify, rendering portions of their non-physical libraries unplayable.

Current Status and Store Repairs

Sony's official service status page eventually updated to reflect the ongoing technical hurdles, noting that improvements were underway. While core features such as friend lists, recently played titles, and software updates are functional for most players again, the PlayStation Store remains partially restricted.

Users attempting to browse or purchase content have encountered 'Content Can’t Be Found' error messages, and the web-based version of the store has faced similar connectivity roadblocks. Additionally, online betas like the Marvel Tokon open beta experienced persistent network errors on PS5 during the height of the downtime. Sony has thanked players for their patience as backend services return to pre-event performance levels.
