If you were hoping to secure a physical copy of the Mortal Shell 2 Revered Edition for your PlayStation 5, you may be out of luck. Developer Cold Symmetry has announced that demand for the premium boxed version has “exceeded expectations,” resulting in all available stock being fully reserved at retailers ahead of the game's August 20, 2026 release date.
Limited Physical Availability
While the standard base version of the game remains available for those who prefer physical media, the Revered Edition—which bundles the game with a physical artbook, art cards, and digital bonuses—is currently sold out. Cold Symmetry and publisher Playstack have stated that because of the manufacturing time required to produce additional units, there is a very low chance of more copies appearing before launch.
“We are working with our distribution partner to review ongoing demand and we’ll update as soon as we hear their decision on next steps,” Playstack noted in a statement. The publisher also clarified that there is no guarantee of a stock replenishment plan, as the final decision on production rests with their distribution partners rather than the studio itself.
The Future of Physical PS5 Media
The supply issues arrive during a period of heightened sensitivity regarding physical media on the platform. With Sony previously confirming plans to remove the option for disc-based PlayStation games starting in January 2028, the sell-out of Mortal Shell 2’s most expensive physical edition underscores that a significant market for physical discs still exists.
Despite persistent criticism from fans on social media regarding Sony's shift toward an all-digital future, there has been no indication that the platform holder plans to backtrack on its decision. For now, those still looking to own Mortal Shell 2 in a physical format will need to settle for the standard edition, provided those remaining copies stay on shelves.
