During a Marvel’s Wolverine: Deep Cuts panel at San Diego Comic-Con, Insomniac Games provided a detailed look at its upcoming PS5 exclusive. Set for release on September 24, 2026, the game introduces a version of Logan that is defined by his cynical, guarded nature and his struggle to piece together his past.

Quick Facts

  • Release Date: September 24, 2026
  • Platform: PlayStation 5
  • Setting: Earth-1048 (same as Insomniac’s Spider-Man games)
  • Narrative Context: Takes place three years after Logan’s tenure with the special ops group, Team X.

A New Take on Logan

Director Mike Daly described the game’s version of Logan as someone who keeps others at a distance to avoid being hurt, noting that his "big heart" is a frequent source of trouble. The story picks up three years after Logan’s time with Team X—a special ops unit established by Nathaniel Essex, also known as Mister Sinister. Having lost his memory, Logan spends much of the game attempting to uncover the events of his recent past.

To assist with the narrative background, Marvel has released an official prequel comic penned by the game’s narrative director, Walt Williams. The comic chronicles an early Team X mission involving Sabretooth, Mystique, and Sunfire, providing context for the traumatic experiences that trigger Logan’s first instance of Berserker Rage—an event that leads directly into the game's opening.

Setting the Scene: Earth-1048

Insomniac has confirmed that the game shares the same continuity as its Spider-Man titles. However, the world of Marvel’s Wolverine is distinct in its treatment of mutants; they are not widely known, and the X-Men have yet to form. Jean Grey, voiced by Krizia Bajos, will play a significant role as she operates independently, searching for other mutants. Her "cosmic connection" with Logan serves as a focal point for the story.

While the X-Men are absent, players will encounter several familiar faces from Marvel lore, including Sabretooth, Mystique, Omega Red, and Bolivar Trask, who acts as one of the game's primary antagonists.

Animalistic Combat and Performance

Actor Liam McIntyre, who voices and performs as Logan, discussed the physical demands of the role. McIntyre noted that he utilized footage of rabid dogs to better understand and embody the character's "feral" nature. The development team has emphasized that the combat is designed to be "animalistic" and brutal, aiming to ensure players feel the raw power of the character.

Musically, the project features a score by Emmy Award-winning composer David Fleming, with the game's main theme, "Logan," debuted during the panel. Additionally, a special Wolverine skin from Marvel Tōkon Fighting Souls will be available in the game at launch, with plans for an Insomniac-themed skin to appear in the fighting game at a later date.
