Jennifer English, the award-winning actress known for her role in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, has stepped down from her lead role in the upcoming PS5 title Tides of Annihilation. The studio behind the game, Eclipse Glow Games, confirmed the departure today, citing personal health reasons.
Project Continuity and Casting
English was set to portray the protagonist, Gwendolyn, in the London-set fantasy action game. Despite her departure from the performance side of the project, the developer noted that she will continue to contribute to the game in an advisory role.
Eclipse Glow Games has already moved forward with a replacement. A new actress has been hired and is currently recording dialogue for the title's upcoming demo, which is scheduled to be showcased at Gamescom.
Official Statements
In a statement regarding the transition, the studio expressed support for the actress:
“We have truly enjoyed this journey together, and wish Jennifer all the very best, and most importantly, good health and happiness in whatever comes next. To our players, thank you for your continued support and understanding.”
English shared her own perspective on Instagram, noting the necessity of the decision to “take time to reset and properly look after my mental and physical health.”
Tides of Annihilation remains in development for PlayStation 5. The studio is continuing to prepare for its scheduled appearance at Gamescom, where the new performance will be part of the playable demo.
