SEGA has opened sign-ups for a closed beta test for Crazy Taxi: World Tour on PlayStation 5, giving players a chance to earn some crazy money early ahead of the game's arcade reboot launch. Registration is open now through August 31, 2026, on the official SEGA website.

Quick Facts

  • Sign-up Deadline: August 31, 2026
  • Beta Test Dates: September 11 to September 13, 2026
  • Platforms: PlayStation 5
  • Included Content: 4 drivers, 6 cars, and 2 maps (including West Coast / San Francisco)

Multiplayer Modes in the Beta

The upcoming closed beta focuses purely on online multiplayer. The single-player story mode planned for the full release will not be included in this test phase.

Participants will be able to test two distinct multiplayer modes:

  • Pickup Race: Up to six players compete to drop off as many passengers as possible within a set time limit to earn the highest amount of cash.
  • Cops 'N' Cabbies: Players split into two opposing teams competing against each other.

Both modes support Ranked Matches for matchmaking against other players, as well as Custom Matches with player-defined custom lobbies and rules.

Maps and Recent Updates

A newly released trailer showcases the San Francisco map, which returns to the series for players familiar with the original 1999 arcade classic.

The game's development recently faced scrutiny after SEGA confirmed that generative AI was utilized for some art assets during early development. Series creators and developers have since stated that all generative AI reference assets will be fully replaced by the time the final game launches in 2027.
