Activision has released an emergency backend patch for the PlayStation 5 port of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 following a wave of targeted hack attacks over the weekend. Hackers were reportedly forcing unsuspecting players into unachievable Prestige levels, causing the game to crash and leaving accounts vulnerable.
Quick Facts
- Game: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2
- Platforms: PS4 and PS5
- Issue: Hackers forcing unachievable Prestige levels and breaking accounts
- Action Taken: Activision deployed backend updates to improve match security and review incorrect Prestige levels
What Affected Players Need to Know
While the review of incorrect Prestige levels is underway, players may briefly see an account ban notice when removed from a match or session. Activision describes this as a byproduct of legacy systems while its update systems apply correct account data.
If you receive this notice but are able to reconnect afterward, your account has been successfully processed and you do not need to take any further action. However, players who are unable to reconnect have been identified for enforcement due to evidence of intentionally obtaining unauthorized Prestige levels or violating Terms of Service.
