How the Ace Combat 8 Soundtrack Is Built

Music director Mitsuhiro Kitadani explained in the video that composers assigned to the project must first familiarize themselves with the game's story, world, and mission design before writing any tracks. The development team selected both current staff and alumni network composers based on their individual specialties.

Kitadani noted that the upcoming flight action game adopts a more modern approach to its music while maintaining the established tone and style of the long-running series. The soundtrack also features a dynamic music system where active tracks respond directly to the player's actions during missions.

Focus Mixing and Sound Design

Sound director Ryo Watanabe discussed the introduction of focus mixing, an audio system designed to support the main character experience. The system alters the audio balance of music, sound effects, and dialogue in real time depending on the player's specific situation to enhance the impact of gameplay actions.

The developer diary also covers technical sound design elements, including the audio profile for plane flybys, explosions, and the game's main theme, supporting a scheduled launch on October 2, 2026.
