Hudson Soft’s 1986 Famicom hit Doraemon is finally coming to a worldwide audience. Japanese retro studio Hamster confirmed that the title will join its Console Archives lineup on PlayStation 5 tomorrow, July 30, 2026.
Originally released in Japan, the game became a major success, selling over one million copies during its debut year. Despite its status as one of the best-selling titles on the Famicom, it has never previously been released outside of its home market.
Gameplay and Structure
Based on the manga by Fujio Fujio, the game tasks players with controlling the titular time traveler across three distinct chapters to locate Nobita and his friends. Notably, the development was split among different designers, resulting in shifting gameplay styles throughout the experience:
- Overhead Action: Sections reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda.
- Side-Scrolling Shooter: Segments featuring traditional scrolling action.
For retro enthusiasts, this release provides a rare opportunity to experience a significant piece of Famicom history that has remained inaccessible to international players for four decades.
