World's Edge has confirmed a series of upcoming expansions for the Age of Empires franchise, centered on Viking-era content across three different titles. All updates are slated for a 2026 release on PC.
Age of Empires 4: Raiders of the North
Launching in fall 2026, the Raiders of the North DLC introduces two new civilizations: the Vikings and the Scots. The expansion will feature two new biomes—Scottish Heathland and Tundra Summer—and four Crucible Mode missions playable in solo or two-player co-op. Gameplay differences are distinct: the Vikings prioritize fast, naval-focused aggression, while the Scots utilize a defensive economy featuring Highland cattle and fishponds, as well as unique units capable of spotting ambushes.
Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition: The Viking Sagas
Also arriving in fall 2026, The Viking Sagas focuses on the historical narrative of Harald Hardrada across three campaigns: 'The Exiled Prince,' 'The Hard Ruler,' and 'The Last Viking.' Players will gain access to three civilizations: the Danes, Varangians, and Saxons. Each faction offers unique tactical options, such as Saxon Hearth Troop javelin-throwers, Varangian shock troops that generate gold in combat, and Danish Longships.
Updates for Age of Empires 3: Definitive Edition
The Baltic Powers expansion for Age of Empires 3: DE is currently in beta through August 6, 2026. It adds the Danes and Poles, two challenge scenarios, and over 25 new maps. Additionally, starting August 13, 2026, the base game will be updated to include the United States and Mexico civilizations, along with three hero cosmetic packs. Existing owners who do not already possess these items will receive them for free as part of this release.
