Indie developers Kiki Can and Ronkad have expanded their meta-narrative visual novel Welcome, Dear Human with a much larger free demo on Steam. Following more than 20,000 wishlists for the full release, this new build goes far beyond the previous itch.io version by adding fresh paths, hand-drawn art with full motion, and a grim deal with a beast.

Quick Facts

  • Platforms: PC via Steam (Windows, Mac, Linux native demo confirmed)
  • Developers: Kiki Can and Ronkad
  • Current Status: Free demo available now; full release date unannounced
  • Languages: English, German, Polish, Spanish, Russian, Simplified Chinese, and Portuguese

What is New in the Demo

Players returning to the first tale will find more scenes, extra choices, and a brand-new ending when facing a sleep paralysis demon. Beyond that familiar encounter, the updated demo introduces an entirely new shapeshifter route with its own distinct threat and tone.

In this shapeshifter path, the creature grabs you and demands help tricking other people online. Players can choose to refuse the beast—risking their place on its menu—or play along as meetings grow increasingly odd and tense. Choices shape the bond between player and captor, influencing who gets tricked and how the story unfolds.

Beyond Text Boxes and Technical Status

The visual novel mixes branching talks with hand-drawn, fully motioned art, custom music, voice work, and hands-on scenes designed to break up long chats. Seven language choices are included out of the box to accommodate players worldwide.

While the developers confirmed a native Linux demo build alongside Windows and Mac versions, technical details for portable play remain open. Steam Deck support, Proton compatibility, frame rates, and system requirements have not been shared by the team, leaving performance on low-power gear unverified.
