Gaijin Entertainment has rolled out a fresh batch of fixes, quality-of-life adjustments, and improvements for War Thunder on PC, highlighted by streamlined tactical map controls and radar display updates.

Quick Facts

  • Platform: PC
  • Focus: Aiming point controls, radar usability, and general bug fixes
  • Notable Vehicle Adjustments: Updates to F-14B, F-14D, Su-30SM, and ground reversing physics

Managing Aiming Points via the Tactical Map

Following the major update that introduced aiming points, developers have added on-screen tactical map hints for aircraft equipped with GNSS-guided weapons or advanced navigational systems. The mechanic now functions regardless of current loadout, meaning aiming points can be utilized for general navigation and other weapon types even if GNSS munitions are not mounted.

To prevent conflicts with free-look actions, default key bindings for aiming point control have been removed. Instead, the interface acts as the primary control method. Players can assign munitions to aiming points by right-clicking a point on the tactical map and using the mouse buttons to select suitable munitions from the menu.

Radar Display and Preset Improvements

Electronic support measures (ESM) functionality has received interface upgrades, adding two small buttons to the minimal radar display view. These allow pilots to toggle the ESM screen on and off and switch between radar and IRST modes without needing separate key bindings or the full button set. Furthermore, aircraft using weapons as ESM sensors will now automatically exit ESM mode once all missiles are expended.

A logic error affecting radar mode presets has also been resolved. Certain radar modes and ranges that were previously skipped on respawn and test flight screens are now fully operational, restoring complete configuration control before spawning.

Physics Fixes and General Improvements

A physics bug introduced in the last major update caused reverse movement friction to be added instead of subtracted, allowing vehicles to reach unusual speeds akin to a racing game. This has been corrected. Additionally, armor mounting transformation matrices for vehicle decorators have been fixed, preventing warped textures on heavily curved armor.

Other minor fixes include restored keyboard arrow key bindings, functional fuel jettison after rocket booster use, fixed tree visibility in optics when zooming, and corrected in-battle chat window widths.

Update 2.57.1.52 Notable Patch Notes

The latest patch also brings specific vehicle adjustments:

  • F-14B & F-14D: Fixed an X-ray targeting pod display bug.
  • Su-30SM & Su-30SM2: Added a limitation on concurrent use of underfuselage UPAB-1500 guided bombs with R-77-1 and R-27ER missiles.
  • IA.58A Pucara: Corrected Pampero rocket speed dynamics.
  • Suffren (Naval): Fixed aiming angle limits for the third main caliber turret.
