Gaijin Entertainment has announced the upcoming removal of two Japanese self-propelled guns from War Thunder. The Ho-Ri Production and the premium Ho-Ri Prototype are being retired from the game's research tree and store effective September 1, 2026.

Why are the Ho-Ri SPGs being removed?

According to the developer, these vehicles were originally added to the Japanese research tree to address gaps in progression. However, the studio has concluded that both vehicles were based on questionable technical research and contain historical inaccuracies. With the addition of new, more accurate vehicles to the game, Gaijin has decided to retire the Ho-Ri series as part of its ongoing maintenance of the research tree.

Quick Facts

  • Removal Date: September 1, 2026 (09:00 GMT for the store).
  • Ownership: Players who own the vehicles or have invested research points into the Ho-Ri Production will keep them permanently.
  • Discount: A 30% discount on the Ho-Ri Prototype is active from August 6, 2026, to August 13, 2026, bringing the price to 4,263 Golden Eagles.
  • Future Availability: There are currently no plans to reintroduce these vehicles to the game for research or purchase.

The removal follows a similar precedent set by the retirement of other vehicles, such as the German Panther II and the Flakpanzer 341. Players interested in adding the Ho-Ri Prototype to their collection have a one-week window to purchase the unit before it becomes permanently unavailable.
