Valve has officially announced Operation Mooncrash, a new community-led project for Team Fortress 2. The initiative aims to expand the game's existing moon base theme by soliciting content from the community for potential official inclusion.

Project Details and Contests

The project is hosted by the TF2 Painter's Workshop and covers a wide range of assets, including cosmetics, weapons, maps, and war paints. While all submissions will be considered for the final community collection, the organizers have launched two specific contests to encourage participation:

  • War Paint Contest: Open to submissions across Standard, Limited, and UV/Dragon Slayer skin categories.
  • Map Asset Contest: Focuses on environmental items such as world textures, posters, gameplay assets, and detail props, with five initial prize placements available.

Participation Requirements

Interested creators are invited to join the TF2 Painter's Workshop Discord server to coordinate their contributions. Participants may submit entries to the final collection even if they have already reached the maximum entry limit for the specific contests.

Recent Competitive Activity

The announcement follows a busy period for the Team Fortress 2 community. Recent events include the LAN Downunder 2026 tournament held on July 18-19, the RGL Season 20 LAN Playoffs in Philadelphia occurring July 24-26, and the upcoming RGL 6s Newcomer Cup scheduled for September 4-6, 2026.
