Hologryph and tinyBuild Games have deployed Update #3 for Unknown, bringing a suite of balance changes, technical fixes, and fresh content to the title. This latest patch focuses heavily on refining combat mechanics and character mobility, while also expanding the game world with a new location.

Quick Facts

  • New Content: Added the Halbmond island POI and a new Crow’s Nest compartment.
  • Combat Fixes: Improved hit registration for melee and close-range shooting.
  • Movement Changes: Implemented speed penalties for carrying items, strafing, moving backward, and bunnyhopping.
  • Technical Updates: Enabled DLSS for NVIDIA GPU users and addressed various visual artifacts and graphical performance issues.

Refining Combat and Movement

A primary focus of this update is the "feel" of player movement. To curb certain high-mobility tactics, the developers have introduced several penalties. Characters will now move slower while carrying items such as weapons, grenades, artifacts, or tools. Furthermore, strafing and moving backward have been slowed down, and a movement penalty is now applied to players who attempt to bunnyhop or jump consecutively.

Combat precision has also received attention. The team reports that hit registration has been improved, specifically targeting melee attacks and close-distance shooting. Additionally, the orbital strike and binoculars now display distance, and the orbital strike has been adjusted to prevent players from wasting the ability by attempting to fire at excessive ranges.

Graphical and Performance Improvements

The update introduces a new "Terrain Detail" setting (Low, Medium, High) that allows players to control the density and range of grass and bushes. Performance of the small scatter has been optimized, and a fix has been implemented to ensure small pebbles and grass transition smoothly into view rather than "popping in" abruptly.

Other visual fixes include:

  • Added a wind effect to fabric-based props.
  • Fixed flashlight artifacts that occurred when moving at night.
  • Resolved incorrect muzzle flash positioning on the Revolver.
  • Corrected lighting issues on the Wok Bomb and Repair Kit.
  • Fixed incorrectly baked shadows in certain compartments.

Bug Fixes and Stability

Several long-standing issues have been addressed to improve the overall experience. Notably, players with NVIDIA GPUs can now access DLSS, a fix that was missed in the previous patch. An issue where disconnecting from the lobby caused players to lose their character customizations has been resolved, as has a bug where players could get stuck in the sky at the start of an expedition due to regional Windows settings.

The developers have also cleaned up interactions with objects. Failure and trampler module points will now emit particles only once after being fully repaired, and lootboxes can no longer be looted multiple times. For those experiencing softlocks on the connection screen, the game will now correctly redirect players to the server selection menu with a disconnect message if the server is unavailable.

Known Issues

While this update addresses a large number of reports, the team has acknowledged several ongoing issues that are slated for future patches. Players may still encounter instances where characters become transparent in Spectator mode, large items float around the character, or player models appear in an idle pose. Additionally, the developers are aware that characters cannot currently crouch while carrying a Repair Kit and that bullets may pass through characters on a speed-boosted trampler.
