Travelling At Night is the latest project from the creators of Cultist Simulator and Book of Hours. The game is set in a postwar Europe where players navigate a world shaped by the "War in the World" and the "War in the Sun." Players take on the role of a protagonist returning home to Cracow twelve years after being "hollowed out" by mysterious entities known as Worms.
Gameplay and Mechanics
The title eschews traditional combat in favor of a narrative-driven system based on choices, skills, and dialogue. Players define their character by selecting a Career and a Passion, such as an exorcist driven by Sorrow or a doctor motivated by Curiosity. These choices, alongside sixteen distinct skills—including Dignity, Spivvery, and Skolekosophy—influence how players interact with the world and the various political factions, such as the Incorporates and the Ministries.
While there is no combat system, players can still encounter lethal consequences or "fates worse than death" as they explore locations like the Sanitarium Aujourd’hui. Decisions made during the story will impact allies and the ultimate conclusion of the game, which is intended to feature multiple endings.
Technical Notes
The Travelling At Night demo features native support for Linux, Mac, and Windows. Weather Factory has not provided details regarding Steam Deck compatibility, Vulkan support, or target frame rates at this time.
