Knytt Classic, the breezy 2006 freeware platformer from solo developer Nifflas, has received a surprise re-release on Steam. Developed as a pixel-perfect port for modern hardware by Wolfhound creators Bit Kid, the game remains completely free.

What Changed in the Steam Version
For the most part, the release preserves the experience of the 2006 original, which tasks players with gathering spaceship parts across an atmospheric 2D world. Bit Kid's new additions focus on modern hardware compatibility and extra challenges for replayers.
The updated version introduces full controller support alongside compatibility for handheld gaming PCs, including the Steam Deck. While Valve has not yet assigned an official Verified or Playable badge, the game functions smoothly on the Steam Deck OLED.
Replayers can also take advantage of optional time tracking for speedruns. Additionally, the port introduces three new modes that increase the game's original difficulty, including Knytt XH, designed by Baba Is You developer Arvi "Hempuli" Teikari.
