Torn Ace Studios has confirmed that Cyber Rail, its upcoming frenetic roguelike FPS, will receive a native Linux port. While the studio noted the port might miss the initial Next Fest demo window, it is officially on the roadmap for release before or around the full game launch.
What to Expect in the Demo
A playable demo is currently live on Steam, allowing players to test the game's high-speed movement and gunplay. Linux users can access the demo immediately via Proton while the team continues work on the native version. The gameplay loop emphasizes momentum, requiring players to slide, wall-run, and grapple through stagecoaches packed with robot enemies.
Core Gameplay Features
Cyber Rail differentiates its roguelike runs through a combination of movement-based combat and modular loadouts:
- Customizable Weaponry: Shops between rounds offer guns with unique utility, such as boomerangs that allow for teleportation or handcannons that split shots to hit nearby targets.
- Passive Upgrades: Players can equip items like shields that protect during reloads or malware that applies damage-over-time effects to enemies.
- Speedrun Focus: The game is designed with speedruns in mind, featuring built-in leaderboards to track the fastest stagecoach clears.
The developers are actively soliciting player feedback from the demo to refine the game ahead of its 2027 launch. While native Linux support is confirmed, the studio has not yet provided test data or frame rate information regarding Steam Deck compatibility.
