The developers of The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu have released their first hotfix for the PC version of the game. The update focuses on resolving technical hurdles identified since launch, including performance optimizations, camera settings, and improved lobby functionality for crossplay.
Quick Facts
- Performance: Includes new PC performance profiles, far LODs, and console-specific optimizations.
- Gameplay: Added starting machetes to all missions, reduced spider damage, and adjusted stamina/run speed.
- Lobbies: New server settings allow players to use passwords to find and join friends.
- Beta Branch: Players previously on the beta branch should revert to the default branch to ensure the game updates correctly.
Key Gameplay and Balance Changes
Several balance adjustments have been implemented to smooth out the difficulty curve. The "Censer mission" has been updated to make purple corruption areas less lethal, and the "Crawling canopy" spider enemy now deals 50% less damage. To prevent players from feeling under-equipped, a machete has been added to the starting gear for all missions, and knife damage has been slightly increased.
Other combat refinements include increased range for pole weapons and faster spawning behavior for enemies as the forest "wakes up." Additionally, the Saints shop system has been overhauled; Saints are now equipped at the ox wagon for a lower cost rather than being purchased at the woodshop.
Technical Improvements and Bug Fixes
The update introduces a new pre-configuration screen on the first launch, allowing players to choose between a cinematic or standard camera. The developers noted that the standard camera may help players experiencing motion sickness or input delay. Furthermore, key bindings will now persist between sessions.
Significant bug fixes in this patch include:
- Replication: Death animations no longer result in T-posing, and the "bleeding" status effect now correctly displays for all clients.
- Pathfinding: Resolved issues where players could get stuck on walls after climbing.
- AI Behavior: The Mi-Go enemy now correctly searches for players, ensuring they appear as intended during sessions.
- Stability: Fixed a crash related to isolation fog and addressed various minor bugs.
Known Issues
The development team is aware of two ongoing problems that are slated for a future patch: Saints currently disappear after a single expedition unless the lobby is restarted, and some players are experiencing issues with in-game microphone detection. Players are encouraged to provide further feedback via the official The Mound: Omen of Cthulhu Discord or Steam forums.
