Subnautica 2 is getting a major quality-of-life boost today. The 1.1 update, titled Adaptive Measures, is now live for all players on PC, bringing a host of community-requested features and targeted gameplay improvements to the Early Access title.
Leading the list of additions is a highly requested FOV slider in the settings menu, alongside a variety of fixes ranging from performance optimizations to gameplay refinements. The developers have highlighted that any change marked with a 🤿 icon in the patch notes was implemented as a direct result of community feedback.
Gameplay and Base Building Improvements
The update significantly streamlines the early-game experience. Progression through the Biomod system has been smoothed out, and players can now discover two additional Biolabs in the Coral Gardens and Axum Ruins areas. The total number of unlockable Biomods has increased from four to six, and players can now unlock extra passive slots by scanning creatures with the Bioscanner.
Base building has also received a facelift based on user reports. Key changes include:
- Increased maximum deconstruct size for bases.
- Improved readability of 'placement ghosts' when building near walls or water surfaces.
- New storage base buildable that excludes items from automatic crafting recipes.
- Optimized placement for the Vehicle Dock and Fabricator, allowing them to fit into smaller rooms.
Additionally, players can now sprint while out of the water, and the game’s default walk speed has been adjusted to balance this new mobility. The developers have also added a sprint mapping option to the settings menu.
Performance and Stability Fixes
A large portion of the 1.1 update focuses on technical stability. Notably, the team has addressed a performance cap that limited Nvidia GPU users on gaming laptops to 60 FPS. Other fixes include improved frame rates in the Metal Farms area, resolution for performance issues related to creature destruction and spawning, and a fix for a crash that occurred when loading saves from previous versions.
Narrative elements have been touched up as well; audiologs no longer auto-play, which should reduce confusion in multiplayer sessions. They now provide a notification and are added to the PDA for manual playback at any time.
