Unknown Worlds has released the “Buddy System” update for Subnautica 2, focusing on expanding the game's multiplayer capabilities during its early access period. The patch is available now for PC players.
New Co-op Features
- Proximity Chat: Players can now communicate locally. As players move further apart, the audio transitions into a radio-like effect that worsens with distance.
- Player Revives: If a teammate is downed by environmental hazards or creatures, other players have a limited window to reach them and share oxygen to revive them.
- Tracking Tags: A new short-range beacon system allows players to tag objects or place markers inside containers to track their locations.
- Customization: The update adds a new emote menu and additional character customization options.
Players do not need to take manual action to enable these features; they are included as part of the latest game update. Those currently playing in early access will find these changes applied automatically upon downloading the patch.
Future Content Plans
While this update prioritizes cooperative play, the development team has confirmed that progress on the next early access update remains ongoing. This future content drop is slated to include a new explorable region, additional story elements, and new vehicles, catering to both solo and multiplayer experiences.
