Studio Reset has announced The Eventide, a neon-noir supernatural mystery game currently in development for PC. The project is the first title from the indie studio, which was founded by a team of BioWare veterans including creative director Kaelin Lavallee, art director Francis Lacuna, and design director Kris Schoneberg.

Gameplay and Setting

Set in a grimy, colorfully lit Canadian city, The Eventide tasks players with acting as the "unseen hand" guiding an investigative agency. The core gameplay involves assigning two agents to specific cases, with each investigator possessing unique backgrounds, beliefs, and skills that influence the outcome of their assignments.

The developer confirmed that the game utilizes Unreal Engine 5 to create a "painterly" aesthetic. The mechanics focus on:

  • Fixed-camera 3D exploration
  • Agent-driven investigation
  • A word-based deduction system
  • Mature narrative themes

Creative Direction

Studio Reset leads stated that the indie format allows them to pursue creative risks they avoided during their time in AAA development. According to Lavallee, the team is prioritizing a specific "misty X-Files" tone and artistic vision that they claim would not have been greenlit at larger studios due to higher risk aversion.

The development team emphasizes that their approach to case files and "redacted truths" is designed to explore the "uncomfortable space between what happened and what people are able to understand."
