A new update for Sandustry has rolled out on PC, bringing quality-of-life adjustments, keybinding additions, and crucial bug fixes. Version 0.5.4 addresses filter configuration struggles, a pesky Tier 5 softlock, and introduces a temporary workaround for indestructible red blocks.

Quick Facts

  • Platform: PC
  • Patch Version: v0.5.4
  • Key Additions: Improved filter editing, zoom keybindings, and automatic save repairs for the Tier 5 softlock.

Filter Overhauls and Zoom Keybindings

Filter management sees several quality-of-life improvements in this patch. Players can now press the filter overlay label or click “Edit last placed” to quickly alter an active filter without completely overriding and replacing it. Additionally, the visual distinction between “Allow” and “Block” settings has been sharpened to make selections clearer.

For navigation, v0.5.4 adds rebindable keybindings for Zoom In and Zoom Out utilizing the two keys directly to the left of the Backspace key, with symbols varying depending on keyboard layout. The developer notes that zooming out beyond the default view remains unsupported due to rendering engine limitations, and zooming in currently introduces visible pixelation.

Bug Fixes and Temporary Workarounds

The update tackles several progression blockers:

  • Tier 5 Softlock: A bug that left Tier 5 blocked even after completing the anomaly investigation is now fixed. Affected saves are repaired automatically upon loading.
  • Red Blocks: While a comprehensive root-cause fix that touches core paths is still in development, players can now remove red blocks. Because this introduces overhead to the demolisher during orphan scanning, it only functions when deleting 256 tiles or fewer. Red blocks on puzzle doors can also be restored by closing and opening the door.
  • Puzzle Reset Button: The reset button in puzzles can no longer be deleted and will automatically restore itself upon reloading.
  • Save Browser: Save browser icons have been updated to be easier to understand.

Crash investigations and work on remaining major issues remain ongoing. Players experiencing feature requests or suggestions are directed to post them on the official Sandustry Nolt page to help prioritize upcoming tasks.
