Saber Interactive will add an AI disclosure label to the Rideshare Stimulator Steam page, according to CEO Matthew Karch. The decision follows public criticism and user requests for transparency regarding the game's use of generative technology.

Confirmed AI Usage

Karch stated that the publisher is not moving away from AI-powered features, which are currently isolated to an experimental “Free Ride” mode. This mode features an infinite number of characters generated using these tools. Karch noted that the implementation required additional staffing, including two writers and multiple coders, rather than serving as a cost-cutting measure.

The publisher emphasized that these features are not part of the core experience. Karch confirmed that the Steam page will be updated to reflect this once the mode is finalized.

Workforce and Development Context

The announcement follows a public dispute between Karch and former writer Stella Sacco, who claimed she was removed from the project in 2023 with the intent of being replaced by AI. Karch denied this, stating that Sacco was removed for other reasons and that the studio has increased its writing staff since 2023.

Regarding the studio’s broader approach to technology, Karch stated that Saber Interactive has no intention of replacing its cinematics team, Digic, with AI tools. He described the current approach as a need to master these tools to remain competitive.

What Remains Unknown

  • The specific date for the Steam page update remains unconfirmed.
  • The extent of AI usage outside of the "Free Ride" experimental mode is not detailed beyond the publisher's current clarifications.
