What's Included in Update 2.0
Update 2.0 introduces a major Unreal Engine update described by the development team as the most significant overhaul to the Zone's appearance, atmosphere, and behavior since the game's launch. Players downloading the patch—which registers as a roughly 130GB download on Steam—will encounter overhauled lighting systems and the introduction of fog as a functional new game mechanic.
Additional additions in the free upgrade include major artificial intelligence upgrades, three distinct types of binoculars, new weapons and weapon attachments, and highly customizable difficulty settings tailored for different player preferences.
Developer Insights on the Expansion
Discussing the creative direction behind the new content, GSC Game World Game Director and CEO Ievgen Grygorovych noted that the team embraced greater creative risks during development. "Throughout the Cost of Hope development, we allowed ourselves to experiment more. To take risks. To surprise. Sometimes that meant trying things we'd never attempted before," Grygorovych stated in a press release.
Studio owner Max Krippa also emphasized the significance of the release under ongoing wartime conditions in Ukraine. "For us, the release of this DLC is proof that even in the most difficult times, Ukrainians continue to create, work and deliver great games, and even the full-scale war has not been able to put the development of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. universe on hold," Krippa said.
