Roblox has unveiled Build, a new AI-powered creation tool designed to let users generate basic games directly within the Roblox mobile app using simple text prompts. By describing a concept—such as a “cozy adventure game set in a dense forest with environmental obstacles”—the tool automatically generates a starting point that creators can then playtest, iterate upon, and publish.
Quick Facts
- Tool Name: Build
- Function: AI-powered game generation via text prompts
- Platform: Roblox mobile app
- Alpha Launch: July 28 (New Zealand only)
- Age Requirement: Nine and older (16+ for published games)
How the AI Creation Process Works
According to the company, Build is powered by a combination of open-source and proprietary AI models. These models have been trained on a large set of 3D objects and gaming-specific data, allowing the system to handle complex tasks like developing gameplay mechanics, environmental design, character creation, and visual and audio styles. Because these processes happen entirely within the app, creators do not need to export their work to external software to build a functional game.
Roblox founder and CEO David Baszucki noted that the tool is intended to lower technical barriers for entry. “This isn’t just for studios who've already proven themselves,” Baszucki said. “Some of the most important work in this industry has come from first-time creators—who were often Roblox players first—with a single focused idea.”
Expanding Tools for Professional Creators
Beyond the consumer-facing Build tool, Roblox is also rolling out new agentic tools for professional creators on July 28. These features are designed to assist with technical maintenance, including automated playtesting to catch bugs, performance analysis, and data-driven suggestions for improving player engagement and retention.
While the initial alpha for Build is restricted to New Zealand, the company confirmed that published games created with the tool must pass “robust safety checks” before they are made globally available to users 16 and older.
