The Quake community has released the Q30 Deathmatch Jam for PC, adding 22 new arenas designed specifically to be played with regular old Quake. Organized by mappers Annihilazor and Infiniti, the map pack arrives as part of ongoing community celebrations for Quake's 30th anniversary, following a year of themed map jams like the 1024 Jam and Limits Jam.

Quick Facts

  • Platform: PC
  • Content: 22 new deathmatch arenas
  • Supported Sourceports: Ironwail, Netquake, and Nightdive's Kex port
  • Notable Contributors: Collaborative maps include work from Mazu and Makkon

Map Design and Interdimensional Settings

The new arenas span the gamut of Quake's interdimensional settings. Players will encounter gothic castles, sci-fi kill-zones, and an industrial brown sewer titled The Filth Pit. Numerous notable fan designers contributed to the project, including a collaborative map named Overflow built by Mazu and Makkon.

Installation and Setup Details

To give the maps a whirl yourself on PC, the release works with multiple modern Quake sourceports. For standalone play, drop the mod folder directly into your Quake directory and use the in-game console to call it up. For online play via Netquake or QuakeWorld servers, players need to copy the map, .loc files, and skybox data into the relevant folders of their competitive multiplayer install.

This release follows a busy year for the shooter's community and developers alike. In January, creators launched Quake Brutalist Jam 3, while id Software launched a brand-new official episode titled Dawn of the Machine at QuakeCon in collaboration with Machine Games to mark the 30th milestone.
