Blizzard is changing how players earn rewards with a major Overwatch battle pass revamp arriving alongside the launch of Season 4: Heroes of Busan on August 11, 2026.

Customizable Reward Progression

The updated system replaces the traditional 80-tier linear track with multiple reward tracks. Once players complete a brief introductory track, they gain the freedom to level these tracks in any order. Each track features specific Legendary or Epic skins, allowing users to prioritize the cosmetics they actually want to unlock.

After finishing all five main tracks, players unlock additional tiers that grant Legendary loot boxes, Mythic Prisms, and Overwatch Coins, eventually leading to seasonal titles. Blizzard confirmed that the total time commitment required to complete the battle pass remains unchanged despite the structural shift.

Premium Tier Hacks

For those purchasing the Premium battle pass, the update introduces a "Tier Hack" mechanic. Players can use this once per season to exchange one eligible Legendary reward for a different item from a curated seasonal pool. This pool includes a variety of past shop and loot box skins across all three roles, such as Raijin Ashe, Mob Boss Junker Queen, Cardboard Reinhardt, Sakura Lifeweaver, and Crustacean Wrecking Ball.

Returning Battle Passes

Midway through Season 4, the game will reintroduce "select Battle Passes past." Whether players purchased these in the past or are picking them up for the first time, these unvaulted passes will remain permanently available for progression alongside current content.

There are specific limitations to these returning passes:

  • They do not include original premium currency.
  • They do not grant Mythic Prisms.
  • They exclude Prestige titles.
  • They do not include original Mythic hero or weapon skins.

Blizzard plans to reveal the specific list of returning battle passes in the upcoming Season 4 midcycle blog post.
