During a break in the set at Wembley Stadium for the current The Black Parade 2026 Tour, My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way took a moment to address a specific question from the crowd: "Gerard, have you played Baldur's Gate 3?"
The query originated from a group of fans holding a banner, a moment captured by TikTok user Katana Luciana. While the band is currently in the midst of their world tour, Way took the time to clarify his history with the iconic role-playing series.
Gerard Way on the Baldur's Gate Series
"No, I only played Baldur's Gate 1," Way responded to the crowd. "Not that I probably wouldn't have liked 2 or 3. I did play the Icewind Dale expansion, but I just ran out of time, y'know."
When Way turned the question back to the audience, asking if the latest title was any good, the crowd responded with loud cheers. Way noted that for him, the original game was "the closest thing at the time to playing D&D."
A Longstanding Connection to D&D
The singer's interest in tabletop gaming is well-documented. In fact, Baldur's Gate receives a direct reference in the opening of the band's famous music video for "I'm Not Okay (I Promise)," where Way is told, "You like D&D, Audrey Hepburn, Fangoria, Harry Houdini, and croquet."
While Way has yet to jump into the world of Baldur's Gate 3, the game remains a massive hit, boasting a 97 Metacritic score. Developed by Larian Studios, the title is available on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series S/X, and macOS. As for the future of the series, Larian has shifted focus to a new project, Divinity, leaving the future of a fourth Baldur's Gate entry to potential other developers.
