Cold Symmetry has released the first major balance patch for Mortal Shell 2 on PC. The update focuses on tuning the game's resource economy and smoothing out combat difficulty, bringing the experience closer to the developer's original vision and the game's open beta.
Confirmed Changes and Economy Adjustments
The patch introduces several significant shifts to how players manage resources and face enemies:
- Currency Changes: Glimpses are no longer required to acquire map locations for Shells; these costs have been replaced with the more common Gloom currency. Players who previously spent Glimpses on these maps will receive an automatic refund.
- Gold and Smelting: Gold drops from enemies have been increased, with Mammon-based enemies now dropping double the amount. Additionally, the cost to smelt weapons at the Tarforge has been reduced by 75% in Gloom.
- Enemy and Boss Nerfs: Several challenging encounters have been adjusted. The Lost Child and Monolith have been nerfed, with the latter receiving retimed attacks. Other enemies, including mace cultists, Caerinid spiders, halberd-wielding rusted knaves, and infested stalkers, have received health reductions—notably a 52% max health decrease for infested stalkers.
- Equipment Buffs: Players can expect increased utility from their gear. The Troubador’s Lute now deals double the attack damage, and the Bulwark Stone provides a significantly higher damage reduction.
Affected Platforms and Next Steps
This update is currently live for PC players. The developer noted that this is a rapid response patch intended to address immediate balance and stability concerns. A larger update, which includes further extensions to features like Night Mode, Tarstones, and PP Items, is currently in development and undergoing testing.
Players do not need to take any manual action to initiate the currency refund or apply these changes beyond downloading the latest game update through their PC client.
