Mega Crit has confirmed a change to its development roadmap for Slay the Spire 2, moving away from the bi-weekly update cadence established during the game's early access period. The studio stated that while the rapid patch schedule helped clear initial tasks, it now requires more time to develop substantial additions, such as an upcoming playable character and an alternate Act Two zone.

Current Patch 0.111.0

While the update frequency is slowing, the latest patch, version 0.111.0, is available now on the game's beta branch. Key changes include:

  • Reworks: Updates to the Defect’s Hyperbeam and the Ironclad’s Expect a Fight.
  • Balance: A series of buffs and nerfs applied to all five existing character classes.
  • Visuals: New idle animations for heroes when they reach low health.

What to Expect Next

Players should not expect a scheduled update on August 27, as the development team is taking an annual break. Mega Crit has indicated that it will be at least one month before the next wave of content reaches the beta branch. The upcoming alternate Act Two zone is expected to function similarly to the Act One split, randomly swapping with the Hive.

Development Priorities

Co-founder Casey Yano addressed several community queries regarding the game's direction:

  • Enchantment System: There are no plans to allow enchantment stacking, as the team aims to prioritize deckbuilding over cardbuilding to avoid excessive snowballing.
  • Difficulty: The team is hesitant to push for high-level Ascension 20 grinds, suggesting that the current cap of Ascension 10 is likely to remain the primary challenge threshold.
  • Mobile and Multiplayer: Steam Achievements are slated for the full 1.0 release. While there is interest in character recolors for multiplayer, it remains a low-priority task for the small team. Touchscreen support is not currently planned until the team begins work on mobile ports.
