Konami is prioritizing the revival of its legacy franchises as a core component of its ongoing business strategy. In a recent discussion with Nikkei Gaming, company president Hideki Hayakawa confirmed that reboots of Metal Gear, Castlevania, Silent Hill, and Suikoden serve as the pillars of their current portfolio.
Strategic Focus on Reboots
Following a period of criticism from fans regarding its pivot toward pachinko machines and a relative absence of new console titles, Konami has spent recent years re-establishing its presence in the gaming market. This recovery has been driven by a combination of re-releases, the Silent Hill 2 remake, and the development of Metal Gear Solid Delta.
Hayakawa’s comments clarify that these legacy projects are not standalone efforts but part of a structured approach to the company's future. While the term “reboot” was used to describe the ongoing initiative, it remains unclear if Konami intends to pursue entirely original entries within these franchises or continue focusing on remakes of established titles.
Future Goals for New Intellectual Property
Beyond the reliance on existing intellectual property, Hayakawa noted that the publisher maintains a desire to develop entirely new genres and creative works. The company's recent output, such as Silent Hill f, suggests an intent to branch away from strictly adhering to the established beats of its classic series.
Despite the historical connection between the Metal Gear series and creator Hideo Kojima, Konami has signaled a commitment to the franchise's longevity independent of its original director. At this time, no specific release dates or project titles for these upcoming reboots have been confirmed.
