Actor Hunter Schafer has provided a production update on OD, revealing that she recently completed motion capture work for Hideo Kojima's upcoming horror game. Speaking with IGN at SDCC 2026, the Euphoria star shared that working on the project "was a lot of fun" and marked her first time doing motion capture.
"I just love how much imagination is involved in filming something like that," Schafer said during the interview. She added that she thinks "Hideo's a genius and so lovely to work with."
OD Development Status
Details surrounding OD have remained sparse since its reveal at The Game Awards 2023, which followed a bizarre gameplay leak a year earlier. While Kojima previously stated that his studio was just beginning to work on the project last year—while he simultaneously worked on the spiritual successor Physint—the team did share a second trailer last year. Kojima has described the horror title as going "beyond the limit of 'scariness'" for video games, while also featuring a system designed to help players keep going if they get too scared.
With Schafer's motion capture sessions recently wrapped, players are looking toward upcoming industry events for further updates. For comparison, motion capture for Kojima Productions' Death Stranding 2 was completed in May 2024 and took just over a year to release. That timeline leaves open the possibility of new information regarding OD and its release window arriving around The Game Awards later this year.
