Developer Dazed Games has rolled out a series of weekend patches for How to Fish on PC via Steam, introducing private lobbies, eight-player support, and several anti-griefer measures following a launch that drew around 340,000 concurrent players.
Quick Facts
- Platform: PC (Steam)
- Developer: Dazed Games
- New Features: Eight-player lobbies, invite-only private lobbies, and session type changing in-game
- Balance Changes: Pufferfish and Whale nerfed; path to the final island made easier to see
Major Lobby and Save Changes
The recent updates address several community pain points for the Steam hangout game. Players can now host eight-player lobbies and set up private invite-only rooms. To prevent disruptions, the patch removes fake servers titled "Game Name" and stops griefers from joining and instantly ending active sessions. While session types can now be modified in-game, players must restart their game after making the change.
Progress tracking has also been adjusted. The game now automatically saves every minute, and manual saves occur whenever you select Save, Main Menu, or Quit, reducing progress loss during crashes. Additionally, the minimum locked FPS has dropped from 50 to 30, and X and Y axis inversion options have been added.
Bug Fixes and Balance Adjustments
Speedrunners will note that a bug allowing players to travel to any island without unlocking them has been squashed, alongside a fix for invisible slot machine skins in 4K resolution.
On the balance side, developers have nerfed both the Pufferfish and the Whale, while also making the intended path up to the final island easier to navigate visually.
