Butterscotch Shenanigans has rolled out an experimental Beta Track Experiment - All Tiers Unlocked update for How Many Dudes? on PC via Steam. The update addresses player feedback regarding Tier 1 difficulty, giving users immediate access to higher tiers without requiring prior gold-star victories.
Quick Facts
- Game: How Many Dudes?
- Platform: PC (Steam)
- Developer: Butterscotch Shenanigans
- New Feature: Optional beta build allowing immediate selection of Tier 2 and Tier 3 difficulty
How the Beta Track Experiment Works
Previously, unlocking Tier 2 and Tier 3 difficulties required players to earn Gold Stars on Dudes in preceding tiers. While this structure worked for the vast majority of players, developer Butterscotch Shenanigans noted that a subset of users found Tier 1 too easy to progress through comfortably.
The new All Tiers Unlocked experimental build lets players choose any difficulty level right from the start. Metaprogression mechanics remain active: earning Gold and Silver Stars is still necessary to acquire bonus starting cash, ensemble slots, dice, and consumables. Additionally, earning stars in higher tiers cascades backward to provide progress toward lower-tier rewards.
Because this change is currently experimental, the studio plans to evaluate player feedback to determine whether to integrate the feature into the main game permanently.

Players wishing to test the updated difficulty scaling can follow these steps:
- Open your Steam Library and locate How Many Dudes?
- Right-click the game and select Properties.
- Navigate to the Game Versions & Betas tab.
- Select the Beta checkbox to download the experimental build.
Feedback on the beta can be submitted via the Steam Discussions or the Butterscotch Shenanigans Discord server.
