Take-Two Interactive has announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 will launch with an $80 price tag for the basic edition when it releases on consoles on November 19. Players looking for additional content can also opt for the Ultimate Edition for an extra $20.
Quick Facts
- Release Date: November 19 on consoles
- Basic Edition Price: $80
- Ultimate Edition Price: $100 ($20 extra)
- Gameplay Reveal: August 27 at 12 pm PT / 3 pm ET on Netflix, followed six hours later on YouTube
Pricing and Editions Explained
The standard version of Rockstar Games' upcoming title will cost $80 at launch. For players wanting more, the $100 Ultimate Edition includes an exclusive collection of premium vehicles, weapons, apparel, and action integrated across the story of protagonists Jason and Lucia.
Addressing the increased price during an investors call, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick defended the decision by arguing that the real cost of triple-A video games is lower today than it was 20 years ago due to inflation. Zelnick stated that the company aims to overdeliver on consumer value, calling the upcoming release an "incredible bargain" relative to the experience provided.
While Bank of America securities analyst Omar Dessouky previously warned that holding prices steady could have kept the broader industry stuck at $70, Zelnick clarified that Take-Two's goal is not to maximize price across all releases. NBA 2K27, for instance, remains priced at $70, indicating that pricing will be evaluated on a game-by-game basis.
Gameplay Reveal Schedule
Players eager to see the game in action will get their first look at gameplay on August 27. The footage will premiere at 12 pm PT / 3 pm ET on Netflix, with a subsequent YouTube broadcast scheduled six hours later.
