Nex has announced that Freefall Racers, the motion-controlled flying game originally developed by Smoking Gun Interactive for the Xbox Kinect in 2013, is joining the Nex Playground library on July 22. The title has been updated and optimized specifically for the platform's motion-tracking technology.

Quick Facts

  • Release Date: July 22, 2026
  • Platform: Nex Playground (via Play Pass)
  • Developer: Smoking Gun Interactive
  • Modes: Single-player and local two-player

Gameplay and Motion Controls

The Nex Playground version of Freefall Racers centers on full-body flying mechanics. Players control their flying squirrel characters by physically leaning, dodging, and steering to navigate through eight distinct race tracks. To assist with the transition to the new hardware, the developers have included a "Flight Assist" feature for smoother handling and a "Flight School" tutorial mode for new players.

Progression and Content

The updated release adds an XP-based progression system that allows players to unlock new characters, race tracks, and championship cups. The game features three distinct speed classes and supports local two-player competition for head-to-head racing. According to Nex CEO David Lee, the release aims to leverage the platform's motion technology to better realize the game's original concept for family-oriented play.

Players can access Freefall Racers through the Play Pass subscription service, which provides access to the full catalog of titles on the Nex Playground console.
