Epic Games has launched a new Star Wars-themed experience in Fortnite titled Star Wars: Smuggler's Gambit. Available starting today, August 16, 2026, the new Island tasks players with completing co-op missions on the planet of Ord Ryla alongside pirate icon Hondo Ohnaka.
Gameplay and Roles
The map functions as a hub-based experience where players can choose from three distinct roles, each with unique abilities:
- Pilots: Capable of scanning for threats.
- Gunners: Can summon a droid assistant.
- Engineers: Provide protection for their team using a restorative dome shield.
Players will progress through missions by engaging in combat against Imperial remnants and pirates, destroying supply caches, and performing heists on Imperial vaults. As you complete objectives, your character will level up and gain access to new items from vendors stationed at Mersa Veta Station.
Galaxy's Edge Integration
The event includes a direct connection to the Millennium Falcon: Smuggler's Run attraction at Disney's Galaxy's Edge parks in Orlando, Florida, and Anaheim, California. The ride experience was developed using Unreal Engine, which allowed Epic Games to integrate assets directly into the game.
While all players can access Smuggler's Gambit in Fortnite to earn a special loading screen, those visiting the physical theme parks can link their experience. By accepting the special mission via the My Disney Experience app before boarding the ride, guests will trigger an in-game detection that grants an exclusive reward, including the Forsworn Trooper outfit.
