Former BioWare developers have stepped away from AAA production to form Studio Reset, revealing their debut project: The Eventide. Slated for PC in 2026, the narrative-driven mystery game swaps intergalactic war heroes for a watercolor aesthetic and 1990s-inspired paranormal investigations reminiscent of The X-Files.

How Investigation Gameplay Works in The Eventide
Rather than controlling a direct protagonist, players act as an unseen facilitator managing a team of paranormal detectives. Studio Reset's design director Kris Schoneberg explains that players select cases and assign two agents to investigate each location based on their distinct backgrounds and perspectives.
The title abandons traditional RPG stats in favor of character lenses that determine how agents interpret the supernatural through spiritual, scientific, or technological viewpoints. Creative director Kaelin Lavallee notes that these differing viewpoints draw inspiration from the dynamic between Mulder and Scully, affecting how characters approach evidence and interact with one another during fieldwork.
An Independent Approach to Narrative Design
After nearly two decades working on RPGs like Mass Effect and Dragon Age, the founding trio structured Studio Reset to pursue smaller-scale, riskier creative directions that are difficult to fund in the AAA space. The Eventide features branching narratives driven entirely by agent pairings and live character dynamics rather than a traditional binary approval tracker.
While the game features no direct player romance or matchmaking mechanics, coupled detectives develop divergent relationships organically depending on who works the case together, leading to multiple paths toward the ultimate truth.
