Square Enix has officially confirmed that Final Fantasy 14 will launch for the Nintendo Switch 2 on August 4, 2026. The announcement was made by game director Naoki Yoshida during the Final Fantasy 14 Fan Festival 2026 held in Berlin.

Quick Facts

  • Release Date: August 4, 2026
  • Platform: Nintendo Switch 2
  • Launch Offer: First month free of subscription charges
  • Subscription Requirement: Separate subscription required (Nintendo Switch Online not needed)
  • Existing Player Discount: 50% off for those with active subscriptions on other platforms

Launch Details and Subscription Model

The upcoming release is scheduled for just over a week from the initial announcement. To assist with server stability during the rollout, Square Enix is waiving subscription fees for all new Switch 2 players for the first month of play.

Following this initial period, players will need to maintain a paid subscription to access the game. As previously clarified during the Anaheim Fan Festival in April, the Switch 2 version will require a separate subscription, independent of any existing accounts on other platforms. However, Yoshida confirmed that players who already maintain an active Final Fantasy 14 subscription on another platform are eligible for a 50% discount on the Switch 2 version.

Future Content and Collaborations

The Berlin Fan Festival served as a hub for broader news regarding the title's future. Beyond the Switch 2 release, Square Enix outlined several upcoming additions, including the new Evercold expansion, which is slated for release in January 2027. Additionally, attendees received news regarding the introduction of the Bastion tank role and a forthcoming collaboration event with Final Fantasy 7.

Preorders for the Switch 2 version are set to begin today. Square Enix has advised fans to monitor their official social media channels for further updates as the August 4 launch date approaches.
