FromSoftware has released Elden Ring patch 1.17 across all multi-platform systems, preparing the game for the upcoming Tarnished Pack DLC while implementing a sweeping round of gameplay balance adjustments and bug fixes.

What Arrives with the Tarnished Pack DLC

While the DLC itself unlocks on August 28, 2026, purchasing the add-on introduces several new elements to character creation and exploration:

  • New Starting Classes: Idus Knight and Heavy Knight are now selectable during character creation (equipment can also be purchased from merchants or found in the world).
  • New Gear: Additional weapons available via merchants or world exploration.
  • Spectral Steed Attire: Three new appearances for Torrent—the Tree Sentinel Attire in Stormveil Castle, Silver of Caria Attire in Liurnia of the Lakes, and Funereal Night Attire in Altus Plateau. Once acquired, steed appearance can be managed at any Site of Grace.
  • NPC Invasions: New invasion events added to Caelid and Leyndell, Royal Capital (noting that the capital event will not trigger after the area transitions to Leyndell, Ashen Capital).

Combat Balance and Weapon Tweaks

Patch 1.17 adjusts numerous weapons, sorceries, incantations, and shields. Field items and treasures found in the Realm of Shadow have also been upgraded to higher tiers, though items already discovered remain unchanged.

Notable weapon adjustments include increased critical hit power for the Smithscript Dagger and Rellana's Twin Blades, reduced stamina consumption and increased power for throwing attacks on the Smithscript Axe, Smithscript Spear, Spear of the Impaler, and Smithscript Greathammer. Carian Sorcery Sword intelligence scaling has been altered to increase attack power across all damage types, and multiple perfume bottles have received damage buffs.

Shield performance sees a broad lift, with increased guard boosts and reduced weight applied to an extensive list of greatshields and shields. Parry timing and execution have also been streamlined for daggers, curved swords, and small shields when paired with skills like Parry, Storm Wall, and Thops's Barrier. Storm Wall no longer consumes FP upon use.

Players must apply the latest update before booting up the game. The version number displayed in the lower-right corner of the title screen will read App Ver. 1.17 / Regulation Ver. 1.17 once installed. The update is mandatory for anyone wishing to access online features.
