Behaviour Interactive is introducing a new communication system to Dead by Daylight designed to help Survivors coordinate more effectively during matches. The feature, confirmed following community feedback from an official AMA, is officially titled the 'Player Intent' wheel.

How the Communication System Works

The system utilizes a radial menu containing eight slots, which players can customize to match their specific needs. Once a message is selected, it appears directly next to the player's name on the HUD. This design ensures that team communication remains visible to other Survivors without obstructing the main gameplay area.

To maintain a positive environment, the developer is implementing a cooldown system. This mechanism increases the time between messages if a player sends multiple signals in a short period, preventing potential spam or abuse.

Customization and Player Control

Behaviour Interactive confirmed that the tool includes several options to ensure players maintain control over their match experience:

  • Full Opt-Out: Players can disable the entire system via the settings menu, preventing both the sending and receiving of messages.
  • Individual Muting: If a specific teammate uses the system inappropriately, you can mute that player individually while keeping the feature active for the rest of the team.
  • Preset Customization: Users can select which messages appear in their eight-slot wheel, allowing for quick signals regarding actions like generator repairs, healing, or unhooking.

While the tool is intended to support all Survivors—including those who do not use voice chat—the studio is currently seeking additional feedback regarding how different playstyles, such as solo queue versus premade groups, will utilize the system. The Player Intent wheel is slated for a full release this fall.
