Red Hook Studios has announced that the original Darkest Dungeon is receiving its first new expansion since 2020. Titled The Fire's Edge, the DLC is scheduled for release on August 18, 2026, marking the 10th anniversary of the game's 1.0 launch.
Quick Facts
- Release Date: August 18, 2026
- New Heroes: The Duelist and the Runaway
- New Hamlet Districts: Academie Duello, Craftworks, and Archaeological Base Camp
Bringing Darkest Dungeon II Heroes to the Original
The upcoming expansion bridges the gap between the two titles by importing two hero classes that debuted in Darkest Dungeon II. According to the developer, the Duelist is designed as a complex damage dealer capable of switching between Defensive and Aggressive combat stances while maintaining her Riposte ability. The Runaway acts as a position-flexible damage dealer, focusing on a unique Burn damage type that synergizes with team compositions built around stuns, pulls, knockbacks, and shuffling effects.
New Mechanics and Hamlet Content
Beyond the addition of the two new heroes, The Fire's Edge introduces several mechanics centered around trinkets. Red Hook Studios has confirmed the inclusion of “trigger uses,” “quest charges,” and “progressive trinkets,” though specific details on how these systems function within the game's turn-based combat loop have not yet been provided.
Players can also expect the addition of three new Hamlet Districts: the Academie Duello, the Craftworks, and the Archaeological Base Camp. The studio has not yet elaborated on the specific bonuses or utility these new buildings will provide for the player's roster.
Interested players can currently find the DLC listed on Steam, where the developer has encouraged users to wishlist the content ahead of its mid-August launch.
