An ambitious multiplayer mod for Cyberpunk 2077 is moving closer to a functional reality, with a recent semi-open test signaling that roleplay (RP) servers could soon be viable for the game. The mod, known as CyberMP, successfully hosted 30-40 players simultaneously in its latest outing.

Mod Testing Performance

While the test successfully accommodated dozens of players, the organizers encountered stability issues when attempting to scale up to 66 players. Despite these early technical hurdles, the project is currently in a phase of semi-regular testing, with sign-up spots for these events closing shortly after they are announced.

What This Means for Players

The CyberMP mod is designed as a freeform platform rather than a pre-scripted experience. It does not currently include official missions, instead providing an API that allows creators to build their own custom activities. This architecture opens the door for player-led content such as heists, organized gang wars, or social-focused events like fashion shows, similar to the community-driven experiences found in popular RP mods for other open-world titles.

For those interested in tracking the project’s development or participating in future tests, the team is currently funneling all updates and sign-up windows through their official Discord server.
